I love decorating for Christmas (Doesn’t everyone?). Since I’ve moved into this house, four and a half years ago, I’ve had a really hard time finding the “perfect” Christmas decor. I border on vintage modern. The problem is that up until this year, it’s been extremely hard to find. Anything that I have found looks cheap or very boring. Also? There is just way too much country kitsch out there. If that’s your thing, then hey, you are lucky. You have approximately 9,024,524 country snowmen at your disposal. And cute little signs that say “Joy” on them. Me? I love the retro look. It reminds me of decorating with my mother. I’m sure our decorations were nothing fancy. Probably just your local Woolworths, or whatever the Target equivalent was of the 80′s. But it was the time spent decorating together. Rather, my mother losing her mind completely while we helped. And of course, I’m carrying on that tradition.
But because of my nostalgia, I find myself gravitating towards a lot of that kitschy and mid century type Christmas decor. Mixed in with some of my own flair. Here are some great ideas that are inspiring me this year:
How cute and easy is this idea? There’s so much you can do with some cute upcycled red frames. Even if you just stagger them empty on your mantle, it would make a big statement. I can think of so many things to do with these, and of course, you don’t have to just save them for Christmas.
If you don’t love this glittery reindeer, you’re DEAD to me. Ok, Ok, I get that glittery things are not for everyone, but there’s a simplicity about this little retro deer that just brings me back to my youth. I just want to eat him up. Well, OK, maybe except the glitter would probably be toxic.
Here is one of those DUH ideas. Why didn’t I think of this? I have so many bowls to put acorns and pine cones in. My kids LOVE to collect acorns, so coming up with a truckload of them would be easy, and making them would be easier. What a great way to embellish nature. I’m totally going out on a nature walk today to look for acorns.
How cute are these felt pinecones? Easy to make and would make a great table embellishment, or make them in Christmas colors and display them in a cute little bowl. Pinecones are one of my favorite decorations of nature.
Monogramming is all the rage right now. And you can do so much with letters. I’m totally loving this berry wreath idea for the front door. Another idea would be over the mantle , which Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick did with some moss, and I think it looks faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhbulous! Also, I hadn’t noticed she redid her corner mantle. More fabulousness all around.
So my kids have been completely excited for Christmas decorating and this year my house is in flux, but I’m determined to not make the decorating sparse. Have you decorated for Christmas yet? I want to see. Leave a comment and I’m come visit your digs. I’m nosy!
